This is my anticipatory report as an observer of e-voting in 2023 parliamentary elections in Estonia. Although it’s not really over yet, I suppose nothing very interesting will happen tonight. But it really has been interesting. You don’t get to write an independent tool for vote verification and generating voter cryptograms using command line tools every election. Maybe something interesting will come of it, but it will probably take time. I’ve been paying attention to what is happening to e-voting in Estonia now about 10 years and if there will be any changes, they will be slow, but they will appear unexpectedly.

This is how it was during the last minutes of e-voting when I was trying to compose a ballot in a hurry, but somehow was able to cast a vote after the voting was already officially closed…
