The federalists in the European Parliament will fail!

Föderalistid Euroopa Parlamendis võivad edasi unistada superimpeeriumist, kuid nad põruvad haledalt

In the European Parliament, a faction of fervent federalists, spearheaded by Guy Verhofstadt, has put forth a resolution aimed at amending the foundational treaties of the European Union, commonly referred to as the “Constitution of the European Union.” This resolution is slated for a vote during the plenary session in Strasbourg on Wednesday, November 22, following a preliminary debate on the preceding Tuesday.

It is noteworthy that Estonian legislation is presently entirely subject to European Union law. However, a decisive stance was articulated by the Supreme Court in 2012, asserting that if the European Union seeks to modify the foundational treaties—essentially consolidating more authority in Brussels—the mandate obtained from the people in 2003 would no longer suffice. Consequently, any alterations to the treaties would mandate the initiation of a new referendum, thereby renewing the mandate. In such a scenario, the populace would be afforded the opportunity to express their stance on further federalization, be it in the realms of migration, taxation, defense, or environmental policy.

Our advocacy is grounded in the principle that additional authority from Estonia should not be vested in the hands of bureaucrats in Brussels. Rather, we advocate for the repatriation of such powers to our homeland.
