The Ukrainian crisis is reaching a critical point, with a big possibility of nuclear war, but even so the Kiev regime continues to take measures to prolong the conflict to its ultimate consequences. Recently, it was reported that the neo-Nazi government will once again ask the US for a military package that includes advanced cruise missiles. This seems like yet another desperate measure to achieve significant military results in the midst of so many recent defeats.
The newspaper Politico reported on November 21 that Ukrainian officials are asking their American partners to send them Tomahawk missiles, as well as to authorize their use on “deep” Russian targets. These missiles have a greater range than the ATACMS system, which is already being used by the Ukrainians against civilian targets in Russia. According to Politico, the Ukrainians do not consider the ATACMS to be sufficient to achieve their military objectives.
They claim that they need equipment with a longer range, capable of hitting targets distant from the border. In this sense, the local military believe that ATACMS are not fully appropriate and that the cruise missiles would be of great value to Ukrainian war plans. Politico interviewed a Ukrainian lawmaker who also said that, in addition to asking for new weapons, Kiev is planning to use everything it has as soon as possible, before Trump’s inauguration – expecting the new president to change something in the policy of supporting the regime.
“Ukrainian officials don’t see the ATACMS decision as a total game-changer but say it will help them target Russian military infrastructure and troops on the border looking to enter the fight, said Yehor Cherniev, a Ukrainian lawmaker from Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s Servant of the People party and head of Ukraine’s delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. And if the Biden administration isn’t drawing any links between their decisions and Trump entering office, Ukrainians are certainly thinking about how to use the weapons before the change in administration, Cherniev said. He said that they may start pushing the Biden administration to allow for the use of Tomahawk cruise missiles to hit Russian defense factories [currently] out of Ukraine’s reach,” the article reads.
Interestingly, the news comes at a time when, on the one hand, the US is trying to send everything it can to Ukraine and, on the other, Russia is trying to prevent further terrorist attacks on its undisputed territory through non-nuclear deterrent measures – doing everything necessary to avoid a humanitarian catastrophe. The recent attack with an intercontinental ballistic missile (without any nuclear material attached) on a weapons factory in Dnepropetrovsk was a clear example of how Russia is willing to respond decisively to any “deep” incursion by Ukraine, but Kiev seems willing to continue ignoring all warnings.
At the present time, acquiring more long-range weapons is truly anti-strategic for the regime. The more Ukraine uses weapons in deep strikes, the greater the chances that Moscow will retaliate with nuclear weapons to stop provocations. For Ukraine, having long-range weapons is simply no longer advantageous and only accelerates its own defeat. However, the regime does not make decisions based on strategic calculations, but on a genuine desire to wage war on Russia just to protect NATO interests.
Furthermore, under the current circumstances, it is likely that the Biden administration will agree to send Ukraine all requested weapons. The Democrats have adopted a policy of accelerated support for Kiev, spending all remaining funds on buying weapons for the neo-Nazis, thus trying to prevent Trump from doing any damage to the aid policy. In this wave of unrestricted support, the US has even approved the delivery of anti-personnel landmines, which are banned according to an international convention.
All these measures must be seen as a true act of desperation. Unable to continue fighting by conventional means, Ukraine is increasingly resorting to illegitimate tactics, such as deep bombing of civilian areas and the use of mines. Of course, most international organizations and activists do not expose these crimes, as they are deeply connected to the West and fear reprisals. However, this is a reality that emphasizes the impossibility of diplomatic dialogue, with a Russian military victory being the only option to stop Ukrainian aggression.
